Argon is the third most common gas in the Earth's atmosphere, at 0.93% .argon is the most prevalent of the noble gases in Earth's crust. Argon is produced industrially by the fractional distillation of liquid air. Argon is mostly used as an inert shielding gas in welding and other high-temperature industrial

Argon was prepared by Henry Cavendish in 1785 but did not find it a new element; until 1894 John William Strath and Scottish chemist William Ramsay It is experimentally determined that argon is a new element. The discovery of argon explains why the density of nitrogen extracted from the air is different from that obtained from the decomposition of ammonia.
